Electric Cigarette use by US Teens Rises 3-fold in 2014 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United States released a statement about the use of electric cigarette in 2014. In its release, the CDC says the number of teenagers who use electric cigarette tripled than 2014. Data in 2013 showed that only 4.5 percent of middle and high school age youth who use electric cigarette. However in 2014, the percentage increased to 13.4 percent, three times higher than the previous year. Uniquely, the CDC also reported a decrease in cigarette consumption of tobacco in the same age category. In 2013, the consumption of tobacco cigarettes middle and high

school teenagers in Amerikat was 12.7 percent. In 2014, the percentage dropped quite large and there in the figure of 9.2 percent. CDC\’s even said to be the largest decline over the past decade. Even so, note to note is that this decrease occurs most major junior juvenile level. At the high school teenagers, tobacco cigarette consumption actually increased from 22.9 percent to 24.6 percent. Dr. Tom Frieden, CDC director, said the results of this release can indeed be a matter of debate. On the one hand, the increasing use of electric cigarette for youth under the age certainly constitutes

a danger to public health. On the other hand, there is a presumption that says the use of electric cigarette tobacco reducing cigarette consumption among adolescents. Even so, he said that the danger of nicotine can still arise even from the use of electric cigarette. \”Some types of electric cigarette contains nicotine, which we already know can lead to addiction. Once they are addicted, it is possible they will switch to tobacco cigarettes,\” he said as quoted by Reuters on Friday (17/04/2015). The same thing was said by Mitch Zeller, director of the tobacco division of the Food and Drug

Administration (FDA) of USA. Increased use of electric cigarette is accompanied by a decrease in tobacco consumption in adolescents is not something that should be celebrated. \”It actually increases their chances using other tobacco products in the future. The data also shows the reality that efforts to prevent and decrease the prevalence of smoking was doomed to fail,\” he said.
